Once you pop—you really won’t stop. These easy Pretzel Hugs are sweet, salty, and addictive.
If you’ve been reading my blog for the past few months, you may have noticed that I am a tad obsessed with chocolate covered pretzels. They were the first “recipe” I ever made many years ago. I got my love for chocolate covered pretzels from my mom. She loves them with dark chocolate. Yum! Chocolate covered pretzels quickly became my go-to treat for nearly every holiday.
Decorated with sprinkles, nuts, chocolate chips, or caramel, the unique possibilities and variations of chocolate covered pretzels are endless! Let your creative juices flow. They’re easy, quick, and pack a HUGE sweet/salty punch.
Today I’m sharing my latest little pretzel treats, Pretzel Hugs.
Are these not the cutest things you’ve ever seen? Not only are they adorable, they are so easy. Stick a hershey kisses hug on top of a square pretzel. Melt for 3 minutes. Press an M&M on top. EAT!
For Christmas, I use red and green M&Ms.
Just melt, press, eat, and enjoy. And if you’re a fellow chocolate + peanut butter aficionado, you must try these chocolate peanut butter pretzel bites next!

Description
Once you pop, you really won’t stop. These easy Pretzel Hugs are sweet, salty, and addictive.
Ingredients
- 24 circle or square-shaped pretzels
- 24 Hershey ‘s Kisses Hugs
- 24 M&Ms
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250°F (121°C).
- Line baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Align pretzels on the sheet. Unwrap Hugs and place one on each pretzel. Stick in the oven until the hug begins to melt down. Mine takes about 4 minutes.
- While the Hugs are melting in the oven, get your M&Ms ready because you will have to move quickly once they are out of the oven.
- Remove pretzel hugs from oven and gently press an M&M down on each one. The Hug should flatten out when you press the M&M on it. If it is not flattening out, place the pretzel hugs back in the oven for 30 more seconds.
- Let the pretzel hugs cool completely and let the chocolate set for about 10 minutes in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Make Ahead Instructions: These are a great make ahead treat. You can prepare them a week or two before you need them. Cover tightly and store in the refrigerator.

I made these for my son’s Bumble Bee Convention they were a huge hit. I’m glad I made plenty of them.
These came out totally awesome with kisses instead of hugs too!
I make these for all the holidays, pastel Easter mms for Easter, red, white and blue mms for 4th of July, Reeses Pieces for Halloween & of coarse Christmas
I make these every year and store in an airtight container. The only issue is the chocolate kisses fall off of the pretzels on 2/3’s or more of them after a couple of days. What am I doing wrong? Tips?
For those who say they cooked for 10 minutes or more and the chocolate never melted — you over cooked them and “burned” the kiss.
The kisses do not loose their shape and they only need a couple of minutes in the oven. You then pull them out and immediately put the m&m on it and slightly press down.
I read somewhere that they changed the recipe of the Kisses and that’s causing them not to melt. I tried the above recipe and my kisses didnt’ soften either. (tops hardened) I’m going to try doing a few at a time in the microwave.
I have used this recipe for years and love them! However, I went to buy my ingredients early for Christmas and can’t find the “old” hugs anywhere. They now have a milk chocolate center instead of the white chocolate all the way through. Anyone else having this issue? 🙁
Yes, they are chocolate in the center but the outside is still stripped. But have they not always been this way?!
Maybe they have and I just never noticed because you don’t see the brown center when you flatten them out.
These are super cute, fun and sooo easy to put together. Love that these are a perfect make ahead recipe too! These taste delicious and are super addictive. I used mini pretzels, the regular shaped ones and the chocolate was melted perfectly in 4 minutes! Definitely a keeper!
I used candy cane kisses with mint m&m’s Beyond good!
I melted mine at 325 degrees for about 3 minutes and they were perfect for adding the M&M’s.
Do you think these could be made a little faster in the microwave? I think I might try my own experiment. I know they might not turn out as good. . .But thought I’d ask?
I can’t see why not!
How long will these stay good for? Will they go bad after 4 or 5 weeks?
They actually last quite awhile– 4-5 weeks is perfectly fine.
I’m so excited to try these!! We’re having a work potluck on Halloween…I’m making some each of M&M’s with Kisses and Reeses Pieces with Hugs (there’s something about peanut butter and white chocolate–YOOOOMMMM!!!)
Simple, fast, and delisouse!! Thanks for this amazing treat! My friends loves them! And me if course!❤
Great blend of sweet and salty. Made at Christmas. Went over well at family gatherings.
I’m going to try these…I found peppermint hugs (white with RED swirls) at Target for Christmas! I’m obsessed with pretzel and chocolate ANYTHING so I’m excited to make these! Thank you for the idea!!
These are DANGEROUS!!! I am making them now as I’m typing this and all I keep doing is snacking on them haha! So I gotta make triple on what I was intending to make! My best friend and I are doing cookie exchanges this year and these are perfect to fill up some space in the tin. Also, I’m going to make these for an ugly Christmas sweater party this weekend and my works pot luck!
I bought the wrong M&M’s (The mini kind) but it still worked. I just put at least 3 on each pretzel. Also, I couldn’t find mini square or round pretzels as well so I bought the traditional (mini) pretzel. All worked just fine!
Made them on Christmas. They are delicious and cute. Thank-you for the recipe!
Just made these for the first time. It was so easy and they are delicious! Thanks for sharing!
These look so adorable. I wanted to make but can’t find mini round or square pretzels. Only butter snap and that just seems gross haha. I bought just regular mini pretzels. Do you think that will work? Or should I continue searching? TIA
They’re great with butter snap pretzels! Regular mini twists work too.
Everyone loved these. Boss even took a picture of them. Thank you!! 🙂
