Turn off that oven, crank up the AC, and let’s get popping.
Tell Me About these Strawberry Banana Popsicles
- Texture: Smooth and creamy.
- Flavor: The popsicles are made with strawberries, a banana, and pineapple juice. You can really use any juice here such as apple, orange, or even cranberry. All you taste is sweet refreshing fruit!
- Ease: Blend, pour, and freeze. That’s all we’re doing!
- Time: The popsicles take just 10 minutes to prep, but require 8 hours to freeze. If you’re looking for a frozen treat recipe with a shorter freeze time, try these cookie ice cream sandwiches.
Choosing the Right Ingredients
- Frozen banana. I like to use a frozen banana because when you blend it up, it creates an ice cream-like base. (More than a regular, unfrozen banana would.) Simply peel a ripe banana, slice into chunks, and freeze. Love using it in this green smoothie, too!
- Juice. My favorite juice for these pops is pineapple juice because it pairs wonderfully with the sweet strawberries and creamy banana.
- Sweeten it up. Taste the mixture before freezing. If you prefer the popsicles to be sweeter, you can add a bit of honey. I usually don’t—if your strawberries and banana are ripe, the pops will be sweet.
What Popsicle Mold Do I Use?
Here’s the popsicle mold that I own. It’s durable, inexpensive, and dishwasher safe. If you don’t want to buy it online, I’ve seen these popsicle molds (and similar brands) at Target, Walmart, major grocery stores, and Bed Bath & Beyond. Any popsicle mold like that will work for this recipe.

Description
Healthy strawberry banana popsicles made with only 3 ingredients. Beat the heat with a skinny treat this summer!
Ingredients
- 1 large ripe banana, peeled, cut into chunks, & frozen
- 12 large strawberries, sliced in half
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice (or orange juice)
Instructions
- Blend all of the ingredients together on high speed until smooth—about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed as you go.
- Pour the mixture into popsicle molds. If your popsicle mold has slots for sticks, you can insert them before freezing—if not, freeze for 2 hours, then put a wooden popsicle stick in the middle (that is what I did). Continue to freeze for an additional 6 hours or overnight. Overnight is recommended for easy removal.
- Run popsicle molds under warm water to easily remove. Eat on a hot day. Enjoy!

- Sweetener: Taste the mixture before freezing. If you prefer the popsicles to be sweeter, you can add a bit of honey. If your strawberries and banana are ripe, you shouldn’t need additional sweetener.
Great recipe! Question about the molds you use – I’d like to use wooden popsicle sticks as pictured in this recipe. Any tips on how you get the wooden sticks to freeze upright? Thanks!
Hi Mary Jane, I kind of hold them upright for a minute or two so they hold place before freezing. Or you can freeze for 20 minutes to slightly thicken the mixture, then move the popsicle stick back to the center if it has slanted over.
These look great! I know the grandkids will love them. I think I got rid of my popsicle mold, do you think the little Dixie cups will work for these? I’ve seen them used in a pudding type popsicle. I actually have everything to make them if I can use the cups and orange juice.
Hi Michelle, we haven’t tested it but that should work!
I was so excited to try it, especially after waiting 8 hours, but they just tasted like ice.
Per popsicle, what is the total carbs?
We don’t usually include nutrition information as it can vary between different brands of the same ingredients. Plus, many recipes have ingredient substitutions or optional ingredients listed. However, there are many handy online calculators where you can plug in and customize your exact ingredients/brands. My grandkids will love these! You mentioned using frozen, thawed, drained strawberries. What if you didn’t drain them, could the juice count as the pineapple juice?
Thank you & keep up the good work
Hi Sharon! You can try that, but the mixture will be very thick so you will likely still want a bit of pineapple or apple juice to help thin it out a bit. Hope your grandkids enjoy the popsicles!
Thanks Lexi for your reply. I just hated to throw our the strawberry juice, but will certain keep the pineapple juice in mind if they are too thick 😉
I don’t currently have pineapple or apple juice, so I was wondering if I could use lemonade to try something new? Maybe like a fruity flavor for the popsicles?
You can certainly give it a try, Sunny! Let us know how it goes.
This looks so delicious, but my boyfriend cannot have citrus. What do you suggest in place of the pineapple juice? Thanks
Hi Glenda, You can use any other juice you would like, or even try using yogurt like I do in my blueberry popsicles!
Would frozen strawberries work ok? Thank you!
Hi Cassie! Frozen thawed & drained strawberries will work here!
My 3 yr old saw the molds today and begged to make icies. We just whipped up a batch of these delicious treats. We can barely wait until they’re ready to eat. This is our second year using this recipe and we love it!
Made these yesterday and they’re super tasty and refreshing! Kind of like a frozen smoothie. I’ll be making them again and I’m already thinking about other fruits to try in place of the strawberries!
I was wondering can you fresh peaches and freeze them in place of the bananas? I love strawberries and peaches. I was wondering can you use apple juice in place of the orange juice?
Hi Donna, I think both substitutions would be great!
And I just totaled it up for one large banana, 12 large strawberries and a half a cup of pineapple juice. Comes up 254 cal divided by six Popsicles equals 42 cal each! Wow that is wonderful
I also added some frozen peaches to this recipe. Kids loved them, me too!
Is the juice required?
To thin out the very thick mixture, yes.
This recipe is a keeper! Our strawberries in April are not quite ripe and sweet yet, so I added some honey to the listed ingredients. We all loved it; thank you!
Hi Sally, i am gonna try these but wanted to know if i could use a couple fresh pineapple slices instead of the juice? would that b ok?
and thanks for the recipes … been back here a few times using recipes that are healthy and yummy and family pleasing 🙂
I can’t see why not because the pineapples will let out so much juice when blended. You might need to add a little water to thin the mixture out. Let me know how they turn out.
I found this three ingredient strawberry-banana popsicle recipe and thought perfect! I started looking around, I only had frozen strawberries and bananas…no juice. So I improvised and used original soymilk and agave nectar to sweeten it!! It turned out incredible! It’s ultra creamy and sweet, full of flavor! Simple is better.
Why do you need to pre freeze the bananas?
Freezing then whipping bananas turns them into a silky smooth vanilla tasting ice-cream of sorts. Fantastic as a base for these popsicles.
Could you use apple juice or almond milk instead???
either work!
Just made them! theyre so simple and delicious i wanted to eat the whole thing before they were even frozen hahaha. thank you!
Maureen, frozen thawed drained strawberries will work here!
I made these for my children last week pretty much straight after reading your post. We didn’t have pineapple juice at home so we went for orange juice, and these easy / quick treats were a hit with them all! Mel
Made these on Sunday and we had them last night for dessert. My daughters loved them! And so did the grown ups! This is a keeper for sure.
